Strategic Business Continuity Management for a Municipal Utility and Transport Provider
Background
A municipal utility and transport provider commissioned us with two projects: creating a regulatory document on governance in business continuity management (BCM) and implementing business continuity management operations using our Excel-based tool.
Ensuring business continuity is particularly important for municipal utilities and transport companies. To do so, it is necessary to have a strategic business continuity management governance system that defines mandatory standards and responsibilities, as well as practical, trained implementation.
This enabled our client to strengthen its organisational resilience in the long term, establish uniform standards for BCM and ensure long-term security of supply for citizens.
Solution
After reviewing the documents, the security experts at the 3-core drafted an initial regulatory document that defined the basic, practice-oriented standards. These included clear responsibilities and roles in business continuity management, the defined scope within the group of companies, and the methodology for business impact analyses and risk management. Furthermore, legal and regulatory requirements that are particularly important for municipal utilities in terms of ensuring critical business processes were also taken into account. In close cooperation with the responsible parties, the document was further developed step by step and adapted to individual needs. At the same time, the Excel-based BCM tool from the 3-core was used, to map all essential work steps in BCM. It started with process mapping, business impact analysis, and dependency assessment, and continued with a risk analysis and the development of strategies for emergency operations. Together with our security experts, the relevant data was collected and implemented directly in the tool.
